Two East Bay companies that have fought to control patents used for the equipment they build for life sciences researchers have been hit by ransomware attacks in the past four months. The latest attack, revealed Wednesday in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by Pleasanton-based 10X Genomics Inc., led to the theft of company data. But 10X (NASDAQ: TXG) said it isolated the source of the attack and restored normal operations “with no material day-to-day impact”. The company’s products are used by more than 20 research institutions in the United States, Europe and Asia studying the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is part of a collaboration in Singapore, called Proteona, to discover antibodies for the novel upper respiratory coronavirus that causes the disease.
